WELCOME TO

GOOD FIRST SESSION WITH YMCA

18-09-2018

ULIDIA TAEKWONDO

We are World Taekwondo clubs, teaching Olympic Sport Taekwondo, self defence and the amazing dynamic martial art.

We have an unrivalled record of producing outstanding black belts that are of an international standard.

We start children at 4 years with FUNdamental Taekwondo at one end and teach ladies of a certain age in our Kickfit programme  at the other end.  In between we train young men and women for international competition.

STAY SAFE - FEEL FITTER

It was a good first of six weeks self defence training session with adults from Lisburn YMCA. Bertie Nicholson said, "Everyone has the right to defend themselves, especially people from vulnerable groups.  So we made a good start and ended with a fun game of long rope skipping!" A big thanks goes to the CSAW group at Lough Moss Centre, Caryduff for funding the training.

The UTA Northern Ireland Kyorugi Squad came a pleasing 9th out of 32 teams at the 2018 Scottish Open with 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze from 11 fighters.  It was a pleasing result having not competed with such numbers at a GB competition since last year. We brought some new players to this GB Regional level and had fighters moving up into older and heavier weight categories.  Head Coach, Bertie Nicholson, said, “We always say that when a fighter and coach sitting in the opposite corner sees a Norn Iron fighter, that he/she should know that they have a fight on their hands. I think we carried on if not grew that reputation.”

The Squad is always looking for new talent so if anyone fancies getting into fight training each Saturday then just speak to Bertie Nicholson on one of club nights.  The only requirement is being highly competitive in nature.  The skills needed can then be taught

Basic Self Defence

James Nicholson (centre), who normally competes with the GB Poomsae Squad teamed up with 2 other GB Squad players to get a bronze in the team event, coming behind the top GB Team and the National Team from Denmark in the highly competitive cadet (12-14yrs) category. In his individual he placed 12th out of 21

Kicking 3 targets before landing!

At this level tenths of a point separate these players which can make a very frustrating day.  Also competing was Liza Nicholson in the female individual’s category getting a bronze!
